Major power refurbishment planned for July
5 Jul 2010
A £200,000 project on high voltage power lines will be taking place in East Antrim over the bank holiday weekend.
The work will replace the earthwire on the electricity line that runs from Ballyvallagh to the main substation in Larne. Although the electricity supplies of customers in the area will not be affected, for safety reasons the main power line will have to be de-energised. Homes and businesses in the area will be fed from different circuits over a 48 hour period.
Randal Gilbert, NIE Duty Incident Manager explains why NIE has chosen the July holidays to carry out this work. “This essential work is planned take place next Monday and Tuesday when the majority of shops and businesses are closed and the demand for electricity is lower.”
“Teams have been planning and preparing for this work for several months with surveys of the line being carried out on foot and in helicopters. Our crews will be working in shifts throughout the period to complete refurbishment in as short a time as possible.”
“This work is essential to upgrade and strengthen the high voltage network in the East Antrim area.”
